Planning Your Trip to Gull Lake Motel: Getting Here and What to Pack

Forest Road

Getting to Gull Lake Motel is easier than most people expect — and packing for a Northwoods stay doesn’t have to be complicated either. Here’s what to know before you head to Nisswa, Minnesota.

Getting Here

Gull Lake Motel sits in Nisswa, in Minnesota’s Brainerd Lakes Area, a straightforward drive from the Twin Cities — roughly two to two and a half hours north on Highway 371. If you’re flying in, Brainerd Lakes Regional Airport is the closest option, with Minneapolis–St. Paul International a common choice for guests connecting from farther away and renting a car for the drive north.

What to Pack

Northwoods weather can shift quickly, even in summer, so layers are your friend. A few essentials guests often forget:

  • A light jacket or fleece for cool lake mornings and evenings, even in July
  • Water shoes for the rocky spots along the shoreline
  • Bug spray — this is still the woods, and dusk brings out the mosquitoes
  • A cooler bag if you plan to use your room’s kitchenette for lake-day lunches
  • Golf clubs if a round or two is on the itinerary — several courses are minutes away

Building Your Itinerary

Most guests split their time between the lake and downtown Nisswa. A simple rhythm works well: mornings on the water, afternoons exploring shops and coffee spots downtown, evenings back at a quiet, comfortable room. If you’re staying more than a couple of nights, budget at least one day for golf and one for wandering — the Brainerd Lakes Area rewards an unhurried pace.

A Few Practical Notes

Nightly stays have a two-night minimum, and month-to-month rentals are available for longer visits or work assignments in the area. Every room includes its own kitchenette, so you can skip a grocery run into a full kitchen setup if you’d rather cook in some nights. Please note we’re not able to accommodate pets at this time.

Book Ahead for Summer

Weekends fill up fast during peak summer months, so it’s worth locking in your dates early, especially around holidays.
